Director of RA NAS Institute of History, academician Ashot Melkonyan has been denied entry to Geogria, Melkonyan told Panorama.am. The academician has tried to cross the Turkish-Georgian border at Kartsakhi checkpoint and has been notified by Georgia’s border guards about the “inexpediency” to visit the country, without providing reasonable explanations.

In Melkonyan’s words, he could cross the border only after the Armenian Embassy contacted relevant bodies to get the permission only for the transit to the territory of Armenia. He has even been notified to avoid staying overnight in Georgia.

There has been no immediate comments from the Georgian side. Melkonyan said he had never faced any difficulties in visiting Georgia and has a good record of cooperation with Georgian colleagues
