Officers of the anti-smuggling department of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee have recently foiled two attempts to smuggle narcotic drugs over the border with Iran as part of their continuous efforts to combat trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances in Armenia.

In one incident, authorities said, agents found around 338 grams of opium after inspecting an Armenian citizen arriving in the country from Iran. The substance was found attached to the trafficker’s legs.

In another incident officers found 1.68 grams of methamphetamine in a truck driven by an Iranian citizen arriving from Iran, the State Revenue Committee said in a statement.

Criminal cases have been launched into both incidents under Article 267.1 of Armenia’s Criminal Code.

The Armenian and Iranian citizens have been placed under arrest.
