The Investigative department at Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) reports that the criminal investigation against Sanitek International Group – a multinational waste management company headquartered in Lebanon, and its branch in Armenia is underway. According to the source, the investigation was opened in February 2019, according to Part 2, Article 205 of Armenian Criminal Code which is evasion from taxes of large amount, duties or other mandatory payments.
According to the SRC report, comprehensive tax inspections are carried out to determine the implementation of the company’s tax commitments and its contractual obligations.
The report came amid the Yerevan municipality and capital residents recent complains and criticism over poor garbage disposal services in capital Yerevan.
Over the past year Sanitek Armenia has been fined twice by Yerevan municipality for failing to conduct proper garbage disposal in the Armenian capital. The company objected to the issued notifications, claiming the failures are linked with ‘objective reasons’, in this case the damages caused to the garbage trucks due to the absence of necessary conditions at the disposal site, as well as a high number of burnt or damaged waste containers and other issues.
On July 30, Sanitek Armenia representatives announced about a press conference slated for Wednesday in Tbilisi where they were expected to present the position of the waste disposal company over the complaints. In an updated press statement released today, Sanitek Armenia said the press conference will take place in Yerevan tomorrow.
