Lebanese President Michel Naim Aoun set a date for the parliamentary elections, Naharnet reported.

Lebanon will held parliamentary election on May 6. Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq also signed a decree setting the date, the source said.

According to Naharnet, elections will be held based on a proportional voting system for the first time in Lebanon.

The government of Lebanon approved a new draft law on elections on June 14. It was agreed to extend the parliamentary powers for 11 months. The elections had to be held in 2013, but the deputies extended their mandate several times because of political instability in the country and contradictions over the new electoral law.
